The Rev. Ted Burcaw leads our worship services, and has been doing so on a permanent basis since October, 2010. He has been connected to the Fellowship since 2007. Ted is a full time school administrator at Diggs-Latham Elementary School in Winston-Salem, NC
Ted has deep connections with the Moravian Church both in North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
Burcaw was raised in Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where his father was a professor at Moravian College and his mother was a science teacher and school administrator at Moravian Academy. His mother was also ordained as a Moravian minister at the age of 63.
Ted was ordained into the Moravian ministry in 1986 while serving as the director of Laurel Ridge, located just a few miles from Transou United Methodist Church, our place of worship. He has served churches in Winston-Salem, NC and Bethlehem, PA. Ted understands all of life as an opportunity for ministry as we seek to experience the reality of divine love and presence in all of life’s circumstances – the mountains AND the valleys.
He moved into public education as a social worker in 1997, and obtained a master’s degree in school administration from UNC-Greensboro in 2000. “I have served as a school administrator in high-poverty, highly challenged schools, and special needs populations.” he said. “My school work has been a powerful avenue for ministry, allowing access to the lives of children in need of a positive vision for their future that will only be realized through a quality education and positive relationships with caring teachers.”
Ted is father of 3 daughters – Katelyn Forero (and son in law Matthew) of Santa Monica, CA; Sarah Yunusov (and son in law Sergey) of Easton PA., and Rebecca of Philadelphia, PA. Ted’s diverse blended family is his greatest joy and source of support. He enjoys performing in community theater, designing and creating original cross stitch, and spending time in the NC mountains of Alleghany and Ashe Counties.
